I M Rare & Aware Skate-a-thon for Rare Disease Awareness and Research

I registered now what?

If you have a goal for how you plan to particpate in the skate-a-thon make sure to write it under description on your personal profile.  This way people who sponsor/donate will know your goal.  Ex. I plan to skate every other hour throughout the event. 
THEN send out your personal URL (found on your main log in page) and send to people.

Can people donate cash? 

Yes if you are a participant and require a cash donation sheet please contact Kelsey at kweisner16@gmail.com

Alternatively there will be donation jars set up at various locations during the Skate-a-thon. 

Do I need to bring money to the fundraiser? 

If you want to buy raffle tickets or make an additional donation- YES! 

 

Where do I put my skates on?

Bleachers will be set up as well as some chairs for people to sit on at the OVAL.

Access to the dressing rooms in the Recreation Complex is also available.

 

Can I win anything?

YES there will be prize categories for participants who registered! 

You can also buy tickets for the raffle and win some AMAZING prizes (including a traeger, gift cards, patio set, yeti prize pack, and more)


Do I need to skate? 

No, you can attend and not skate. There will be some games and fire pits if you want to come and cheer someone on! Inside there will also be craft tables, face painting, and more.


How can I get people to sponsor/donate to me?

When you register as a paticipant you will be given your own URL to share with people.
Ask your friends, family, co-workers, sports teams, teachers, neighbours..

If people give you a cash donation and want a tax receipt it must be $20 or more, and you will need to write down their mailing address and email information for a receipt.

Can I register the day of the fundraiser? 

Yes- online, but really just show up and lace up :)


Do I need an email to register? 

Yes


Do I need a credit card to register? 

Yes- If registering someone over the age of 13.


How do I sign up my whole family?

Registrations need to be completed individually, and will require a persons name, email, and payment (if over 12) 

Once a participant is registered they can join a team.

 

How do I donate? 

On the home page their is a button to click to donate.

Can I register as a participant with cash?

Do people get tax receipts for donating? 

Yes, any online donation will receive a tax receipt.  Cash donations need to be over $20 for a receipt, and all information must be provided (mailing address and email).

Do I get a tax receipt for the $25 registration donation? 

No unfortunately not, despite all funds going towards Sick Kids Rare Disease Research and Initiatives, this was the only way to set up the site.


How long do I need to skate for? 

It is up to you, or your team. You set your own goal. The event will be going on 10:30-5:00pm. There will be prizes for persons on ice the longest- track on your own device and check in before 5pm with a McKechnie family family or at skate-a-thon booth inside.


Do people donate to me per lap or based on how long I stay?

Thats something for you to decide. If your plan is to do 50laps throughout the day, you could write that on our profile page asking people for $50 donations.

Any donation amount is great!

 

Do I need to stay from 10:30-5:00pm?

No. Although we would love to see great team pereformance and organization which lasts the whole time of the event :)

 

Will there be food and drinks?

Yes there will be a BBQ, coffee + hot chocolate, as well as water. Smores and cookies first come first serve- limited amounts.


Where do we use the washroom?

Washroom facilities are available to use inside the Recreation Complex beside the Oval.
