The Lucky Penny Project is inspired by Penelope (Penny) Powell, a Pierre Robin Sequence patient at SickKids.
Pierre Robin sequence is a condition present at birth, in which the child is born with a smaller than normal lower jaw, a tongue that is placed further back than normal, and an opening at the roof of the mouth (cleft palate). Together, these issues can lead to difficulty breathing and problems with eating early in life. Penny was born December 18, 2020, and was transferred to SickKids on December 24, 2020. She was in the care of the amazing nurses, doctors and specialists in the Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit (8C) for two and a half months before coming home to her parents, Courtney and Matt.
Given the health and safety of our patients and families during these unique times, it is difficult to leave the hospital. Last year The Lucky Penny Project raised an incredible $18K+ to help purchase gift cards for families whose children are being treated in the Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit (8C). For the second year in a row we'd like to come together again to raise funds that go towards purchasing gift cards for vendors within the hospital including: Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Subway, Soup it Up, The Terrace Cafe, etc.
Donate to The Lucky Penny Project and help us reach our fundraising goal in support SickKids' families!
Thank you for your generosity!
