Breakthroughs in Research leads to hope!
By raising funds for the Kids Cancer Sequencing Program (KiCS) study, Moms Give A Puck youth hockey tournament and its supporters helps clinicians to deliver Precision Medicine to children with refractory, relapsed and metastatic cancers through the genetic sequencing of their disease. When all traditional cancer treatments have failed, monies raised for KiCS gives a child
and their families a ray of hope: another chance to fight to fight the fight, who might otherwise have no chance at life.
Moms Give A Puck funds The SickKids Cancer Sequencing (KiCS) Program. KiCS is a collaborative and innovative study that brings together experts in haematology/oncology, pathology, bioinformatics, genetics, genomic research, and genetic counselling to determine the genetic profiles of tumours, which will help clinicians identify the best individualized treatment options for children with refractory, relapsed and metastatic cancer.
Each year, KiCS sequences about 125 cancer patients, which costs approximately $1 million, annually. Today, over half of these patients have a targeted treatment plan that would have been otherwise unknown and unavailable.
